National Physical Science Consortium (NPSC) supports grad students for up to 6 years in the physical sciences/engineering fields, who must also intern. Initial support may be for 2 or 3 years, or for a full 6 years, depending on the employer-sponsor. Fellows are expected to complete 1 to 2 summer internships. Selected employers include Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), the National Security Agency (NSA), and Sandia National Laboratories.
Stipend: $20,000 student stipend and $7,000 is NPSC's fee to support its operations.
Applicants must be accepted at a participating NPSC-member university or college and progress through a full-time study program leading to a graduate degree in the physical sciences or related engineering fields. Applicants at any stage of their graduate program may apply, as long as they will be available to accept 2 summers of paid internship. Those who already possess a doctoral degree are ineligible. Letters of recommendation; the most effective letters are from persons who have supervised or observed the applicant's participation in research. GRE tests are required. Research experience at a university or in industry. Employers may nominate NPSC fellows directly, obviating the selection process. These fellows may enroll for either a Master's or a PhD degree.
