Harvard University Reischauer Institute of Japanese Studies offers several postdoctoral scholars support to work on publishing their dissertations for 10 months. Residence in the Cambridge/Boston area (where Harvard University is located) and participation in Institute activities are required. Postdoctoral fellows will be expected to give a presentation at the Reischauer Institute’s Japan Forum lecture series, and may also teach an undergraduate course. Areas of interest in Japanese studies include Japanese popular culture, Meiji history, and Japanese imperialism/war memory, among others.
Stipend: Stipend of $70,000, health insurance, $5,000 for research/travel funds, office space, and access to libraries and resources of Harvard University.
Must have received PhD no more than 5 years ago. Those who are chosen to receive fellowships must have completed all requirements for the PhD degree by June 30, 2 months before the fellowship starts. Research plan at Harvard. CV, including citizenship. List of publications. Dissertation abstract, table of contents, and chapter. Official transcripts. Writing Sample. 2 letters of recommendation. Teaching 1 undergraduate course in the fall or spring semester of the academic year is not required but certainly encouraged.
