University of California Alan Pattee Scholarship 2025

Applications are now open for the University of California 2025 Alan Pattee Scholarship.Under the provisions of the Alan Pattee Scholarship Act, an eligible University of California student who is a surviving spouse or surviving child of a deceased person who meets all of the requirements may be eligible for an exemption towards mandatory system-wide tuition and fees and campus-based fees (excluding health insurance).

Requirements

The deceased:

  • Was a resident of California
  • Was employed by a public agency, or was a contractor, or an employee of a contractor, performing services for a public agency
  • Had principal duties consisting of active law enforcement service or active fire suppression and prevention
  • Passed away in the performance of active law enforcement, or active fire suppression and prevention duties, or died as a result of an accident or injury incurred in the performance of those duties

The surviving spouse or child of the employee, contractor, or an employee of a contractor, performing services for a public agency must also:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate student at a UC campus.
  • Based on the student’s current year FAFSA or California Dream Act Application have an annual income, including the value of support received from the parent that does not exceed the maximum household income and asset level for a Cal Grant B applicant.

Application Documents

To certify that a student qualifies for the Alan Pattee Scholarship, Financial Aid and Scholarships will collect the following:

  1. Death certificate
  2. Letter of support from the employer, a state or local government official with supervisory or other relevant oversight authority of the individual to validate that the parent died in the line of duty

How To Apply

The application for undergraduate admission allows applicants to self-identify in the Scholarship portion of the application. Financial Aid and Scholarships will use this code to pro-actively review students for eligibility and will contact students if additional information is required. If you have not applied for Alan Pattee Scholarship on the admission application and think that you are eligible, please contact Financial Aid and Scholarships.
Students will be required to complete the FAFSA or the California Dream Act Application annually so that the eligible income levels can be verified on an annual basis.
