The American Academy in Rome is seeking excellent scholars and artists for around 12 fellowships in various disciplines for up to 2 years. The fellowships are for advanced research and creative work in Rome, Italy. Fellowships range, but the most common time is 11 months. Emerging Fellows will spend time studying, creating, or working at the Academy. Typical fellowships begin in September.
Stipend: Winners of half- and full-term fellowships receive stipends of $16,000 and $30,000, respectively.
Graduate students in the humanities may apply only for pre-doctoral fellowships only if they are ABD (All But Dissertation). Undergraduate students are ineligible. Collaborators may submit joint applications provided their work is genuinely collaborative. Rome Prize Winners may not hold a full-time job during the fellowship term, though winners may undertake part-time work. Recommended: basics of the Italian language. Preference will be given to those applicants who have not had extensive prior experience living, studying, and/or working in Rome. Applications submitted and/or postmarked on or before 1 November require a $40 application fee. Applications submitted and/or postmarked from 2 November through 15 November require a $70 application fee. Applicants applying in more than one field, whose application is postmarked on or before 1 November, must submit a $50 application fee. Applicants applying in more than one field, whose application is postmarked from 2 November through 15 November, must submit a $80 application fee.
