Princeton University PPIA Junior Summer Institute 2027

The Junior Summer Institute (JSI) is structured to introduce or strengthen skills in economics, statistics, policy analysis, writing, and public speaking. At the end of the program, students present a comprehensive final report on a current domestic or international policy issue that draws on the skills acquired in their coursework, policy analysis and writing.

Benefits

• Each student enrolled in the PPIA Junior Summer Institute receives a $2,000 stipend for living expenses
• Full tuition
• Reimbursement for domestic travel to and from the program
• The participants live on campus and have access to Princeton University's resources.

Requirements

Applicants must:

• Have completed at least one course in college-level economics, mathematics, or statistics; or an AP/IB calculus, economics, or statistics course.
• Have junior or senior standing in an accredited U.S. college with one or two semesters remaining after completing the summer institute; this includes international students pursuing an undergraduate degree at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university.
• Demonstrate an interest in and a commitment to a career in public or international affairs.

Application Documents

(If these documents are not already in electronic form, please scan them before you begin)

• A résumé that includes work experience, extracurricular activities, foreign travel, language abilities, community involvement and other experiences relevant to public affairs
• A multipart personal statement highlighting cultural experiences, leadership skills and a commitment to public service
• Unofficial academic transcripts for ALL colleges and universities you have attended and listed on the application**
• Two letters of recommendation (Applicants will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of the two people who will submit letters of recommendation)
• If applicable, a copy of all financial aid award letters for the current academic year and the Student Aid Report (SAR)
• Complete financial information requested on the application (If you do not receive financial aid, please submit parent/guardian’s income tax return)
• Submit the completed PPIA JSI Application

** Students admitted to the JSI program will be required to submit an official academic transcript(s) for ALL of the colleges and universities attended and listed on the application.
