The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports graduate students to attend 3-4 week summer language courses at German universities. The course will focus mainly on German language and literary, cultural, political, and economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Study can be completed at different universities in Germany. The goal of the grant is to help students succeed academically and professionally because of learning German.
Stipend: Scholarships of approximately €850 ($1,162) which covered tuition, room and board, and travel subsidy of €300-450.
Must be a full-time student. Applicants must have completed a minimum of 4 semesters of college German (or have obtained an equivalent level of language proficiency elsewhere). CV. Autobiographical essay in German. A detailed statement (in English). A recommendation letter written by a professor in the field of the applicant's degree study; should not be from the same professor who evaluates his or her language proficiency. Official transcripts. A language evaluation form must be completed and signed by a faculty member of the German Department at the applicant's institution or by an official of a Goethe-Institut. Demonstrated interest in Germany and Europe and/or the need to learn the German language for professional or academic purposes will also be taken into consideration. 1 grant is specially earmarked for an applicant in the fine arts.
