2026 NASA Lifelines Fellowship Program

The fellowship program is made up of leaders and community buildings from around the country who are passionate about the Earth and humanitarian sciences. There is no standard NASA Lifelines Fellow. Anybody with an interest in Earth Science, Humanitarian Aid, International Development and other related fields are welcomed and encouraged to apply. NASA Lifelines accepts participants with skills in a variety of these and other fields, no previous experience is required, just an eagerness to learn. The subject of the case study will be determined collaboratively, based on Fellow area of expertise and partner priorities. We may connect you with organizations such as UNICEF for a global healthfocused case study, or with others working in areas like climate resilience, displacement, or food security.

Benefits

  • Fellows will be provided with two stipend installments of $2500 each throughout the duration of the 6-month term based on project milestones. The first stipend will be paid after the first month of the fellowship and training is complete. The second stipend will be paid in the 4th month of the 6th month term.

Requirements

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Strong interest in Earth Science / Humanitarian / Geospatial fields
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or otherwise legally eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Participants are required to be located and work from within the 50 U.S. states and/or Washington, DC for the duration of the 6-month term. Virtual participants are not authorized to work remotely outside the U.S.

Technology Requirement

  • A working Laptop or desktop computer that can run Microsoft, Adobe, GIS programs.
  • High-speed internet connection.
  • Any required software and/or licensing will be provided to participants once the program begins.

Selection Process

  • The NASA Lifelines application and selection processes are managed on behalf of NASA by DevGlobal Partners.
  • Applications will be reviewed by the NASA Lifelines Team.
  • Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted to arrange a day and time. Interviews will be conducted over video conference and/or phone. Interviews will be conducted by one or more members of the NASA Lifelines Team. 
  • After the review process is complete and selections are made, each applicant will receive a notification via email regarding the outcome of the selection decision.
  • The Lifelines fellowship takes place twice a year. If you are not selected for this term, we encourage you to apply during the next opportunity window.
