The American Institute for Sri Lankan Studies (AISLS) offers up to 4 fellowships supporting 2-9 months of scholarly research in Sri Lanka for U.S. citizens. Fellowship is for scholars with little or no experience, as well as specialists. Scholars should have an established interest in Sri Lanka and show that their research will contribute to the understanding of historical or contemporary connections with other parts of the world. The fellowship aims to strengthen ties between U.S. and Sri Lankan scholars.
Stipend: Stipend of $3,700 per month, reimbursement for airfare up to $2,000. A limited budget for research expenses, to be negotiated according to need and funding limitations.
Applicants must have Ph.D. or equivalent academic degree or show that they will hold such a degree before taking up the fellowship. Cannot have been awarded an AISLS fellowship for more than 10 months over any three consecutive competitions. Applicants must plan to spend at least two months in Sri Lanka and complete the fellowship (including travel back to the United States) before 2 years after the application due date.
