The pre-application form consists of the American Councils for International Education’s (American Councils) Privacy Notice and Consent Form and the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program's Campus Advisors' Acknowledgement and Consent Form. You must agree to these forms before beginning the full application.

An answer of "No" to questions asked on this page does not necessarily indicate that you are ineligible for the CLS Program. A list of frequently asked questions is provided on the CLS website at https://clscholarship.org/applicants/frequentlyasked-questions. 1) Citizenship: Only U.S. citizens and nationals are eligible for the CLS Program. Naturalized citizens must have U.S. citizenship by the CLS application deadline. Permanent residents and green card holders are not eligible to apply. 2) Age: You must be 18 years of age by May 15, 2026 in order to be eligible for the 2026 CLS Program.
