California State University Northridge African American Social Justice Scholarship 2026

The annual distributions from the African American Social Justice Scholarship Endowment will provide scholarships to enrolled students who actively seek to enhance social justice within the African American community on campus and in the broader society. For purposes of this award, social justice is defined as the fair treatment of all people in a society/community, including respect for the rights of minoritized communities and equitable distribution of resources. Commitment to social justice is a means by which we demonstrate “Respect for all People,” a core university value.

Requirements

• Open to all majors
• All incoming students (First time Freshmen, First Time Transfers)
• Sophomore, Junior, Senior, Graduate, Credential, Tseng- no open university
• Enrollment:
  *Undergraduates must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 units or more during the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
  *Graduate must enrolled in a minimum of 4 units or more for Master/Doctorate and 6 units or more for Credential during the upcoming fall and spring semesters.
• Submit two essays. Essay topics will be provided in the application.
• One letter of recommendation is required from an individual such as a teacher, professor, counselor, advisor or community leader. The individual must provide examples of your engagement/involvement in social justice within the African American community and attest to your activities that enhance social justice within the African American community. The individual submitting a letter of reference cannot be related to you.
• Must have a FAFSA or CADAA (California Dream Act Application) on file for the upcoming academic year.
• Continuing CSUN student applicants must be in Good Academic Standing (https://www.csun.edu/process-repository/academic-standing) with the University to receive a scholarship.
• Preference for this award will be given to students who attended a Title I (i.e., schools with high percentage/number of low-income families) high school in the County of Los Angeles.
• Selected recipient must submit a thank you letter.
